Sergiev Posad

One of the holiest places of Russian Orthodoxy, the Monastery of the Trinity, founded in the mid 14th century by St. Sergius of Radonezh, is located 60 km from Moscow and makes a fascinating day trip out of town.
The sights at Sergiev Posad include:
The Trinity Cathedral: one of the few surviving examples of early Muscovite white-stone architecture.
The Cathedral of the Assumption: the largest church of the Trinity Monastery, its external shape repeating that of the 15th century Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin.
Refectory with the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
Bell tower: the tallest building in the Monastery. Its height including the cross is about 88 metres.
